Have you tried disconnecting the idle up plug from your carburettor? Its a green plug going into it It pushes the revs up when lights, etc are on. When the weather warms up a bit more, you can remove the choke plate. Could save you having to fork out for the conversion right now, as long as you can deal with the issue until its warm enough to start without choke! I still highly recommend the SU conversion though.
