I'll get the paper with the propper measurements from the garage tomorrow. There was about +-0.65 in the diameter of the yoke and +-0.40 ish in the other bit (Bearing cap? I'm not sure what you call the bit in the middle)

Re: Propshaft info
Suprisingly my Samurai passed it's MOT the other day with only one advisory, the yoke on the rear propshaft is worn. I took the 'pivot' off and measured it with a micrometer and it was reasonably round (a lot closer to round than the yoke!) So i've decided to replace it. I was wondering if it was po...

Reconditioning Gearboxes
I'm looking to swap my SJ410 engine with a Vitara 1.6 8v engine. So i'm going to need a SJ413 gearbox. Since i have a few months to service / recondition the 'new' engine and gearbox i would start with the gearbox. I'm not sure what you'd call them, possibly 'bearing kits' or reconditioning kits. I'...

Re: oops . . . diff go boom
Oh dear! That looks nasty! I've seen a prop shaft come off and smash a gearbox housing to pieces. A bit bigger than a SJ one though, it was 5 ft long and 6 inches in diameter, now that made a horrible noise. Sounded like £7K being chewed up !

Re: 1.6 Engine into a SJ410
I've never bothered with the 1.3 sump, as dan said either a bit of lift with lowered bump stops or moving the axle 25mm forwards will help clear the 1.6 sump. My SJ has a 2 inch shackle lift, would this be enough to clear the Vitara sump? How much of a job is it to move the axle 25mm forewards? Tha...

Re: Huw's '89 SJ 410
Having a pit helps a lot! Especially with some of the things i wanted to do.
I know someone who’s breaking a 1.6 8v Grand Vitara. Would that be the same as a Vitara engine? (Sorry for the stupid question, but I want to make sure!)
Thanks

Re: Huw's '89 SJ 410
For my 1.6 engine swap, would a engine out of any 1.6 Vitara do, or does it have to be a specific range of years?
Thanks

Re: SJ virgin re-build started !!!!
I am on the same boat as you. I'm 18, with little experience of maintaining cars. When i bought my SJ 410 it needed a new fuel tank, brake and fuel lines, welding the arch on drivers side, fixing some electrical gremlins in the headlight system and a new clutch. Even though i had NO experience doing...
