Fitting YJ springs to a Samurai

Has anyone got drawings or a link to a good set up for making the brackets needed for this?

I am planning NOT to use missing links, but use a boomerang style shackle on the front, and straight on the rear (I think) as I've read some articles suggesting missing link (and D flex) are unsafe on the road. To be honest though I'm taking that with a pinch of salt as I've had D flex for three years with no issues :D

So any pointers would be nice as I'm out of action (again) and need to get on with fitting my springs.

I found that the templates i found on the net did not really fit that well its much easier to remove your springs and line up the yj's and make a template to suit how you want the springs to sit. You must consider height and spring centre position. When i fitted mine I managed to lower my sj by fitting the yj's compared to its previous set up of standard springs SPOA with add a leafs

I've just had another look through you build thread and "nicked" the YJ info.

Very nice job, with some nice little touches, and some good engineering principles often omitted.

I might have to drag mine out of the garage now, jet wash it underneath, then get cracking 8-)

Thanks :lol: It all seems a bit daunting looking at it at first but as soon as you start making things it wont take you very long are you going spoa or spua

Yeah it does look a little daunting, but once set up, and a plan is formed I should be OK. I know where to come for help if not.

SPUA. I know SPOA looks pretty cool and a bit more macho, but I'd prefer to not put it on it's side too often.

I will be doing a virtual lift also I think.

1. To help get the 31's in.
2. To repair the damage done when the spring let go. The arches have been bodged before and it smashed a load of filler out. :cry:

Well I've got the rear springs off now, and they are just fit for the bin. (I'm givving them to a guy who make hand made knifes :shock: )

I've cleaned up the YJ's I've bought. Well when I say YJ's, the front ones are, but the rears came off a YJ, but are actually from a Nissan Navara.

These are the ones.

If they work all right they could be a cheaper alternative to YJ's. Has anyone else fitted these?
I've removed the very long, very thick bar you can see, so they are down to two full length leafs, and a thick short bottom leaf.

Will they be ok?

wow thats very interesting... pls let us know if that navara leaf springs are nearly trhe same as the YJ's , we have thousants navaras here in cyprus

Interesting dont know how they will flex or how comfy they will be but at that price with the mounting kit its a very cheap alternative which is readily available . Is the centre pin actually in the middle of the springs its hard to tell looking at the pics. Oh and yeah progress pics are compulsory!
