Yes, it's a popular from of the name Anthony in many parts of Europe, including Germany.
A lot of people here get it wrong. Often I get called "Anthony", "Antione", "oi you", and "dork" a lot.

I had similar mismatches, when I was living in the UK. My name is Vladimir - for short Vlado. I was called Vlad the Impailor by my some of my workmates, and Ladu {an Indian sweet} by others. But at the end of the day who cares...
