What transfer box is this?
Hi everyone, I've just been given a transfer box for my samurai but it looks a bit different to the others I've had in. Its the same size and the mounting holes are in the same place but there's no wire for the 4wd switch, the rear of the case is a different shape, the shift lever has 2 bolts holding it in and the holes in the flanges for the props are 50mm apart. I was told it was a 410 box but im not sure, does anyone know what its from, and if i can change the flanges and use it on my samurai? I've included a few pics, thanks Steve.

It's an early 82/83 sj410 transfer box

Nope flanges have different spline count... I had one not so long ago for the handbrake mechanism and you can't give the damn things away

Hey.
I also have one. i dont know from what kind of SJ.
It is from a Samurai (build? i dont know) but my did not have the handbrake on it. So its the same (like my "normal" Samurai TB) but only without handbrake?

Re: What transfer box is this?
You can fit it to yours but you might need to redrill the tbox flanges to match your props, as Twiss says the flanges won't swap over. They are actually slightly lower geared than the later 410 tbox.stevepsj413 wrote:Cheers Scottie, can i swap flanges and fit it to my samurai and just run it without the 4wd light? That's either an sj413 or a later sj410 transfer box, the case is identical to the samurai one and you can remove the drum brake and fit your flangesOZ83 wrote:Hey.

If you shift it into 4 low, then count the number of turns of the Input it takes to turn the output once it will give you the ratio and identify which box it is.
2.3ish turns to one is a 413 tbox
2.5 turns to one is a 410 tbox, this is good to fit of you are running larger than stock tyres and will pretty much perfectly correct the gearing for 235/75r15 tyres in high.

Re: What transfer box is this?
if the spline is 24mm that's the older version of 410 transfer case,

I tried this but the spigot bit in the middle of the propshaft is bigger on the later prop shaft and wasn't even close to fitting on the older flangeScottieJ wrote: You can fit it to yours but you might need to redrill the tbox flanges to match your props, as Twiss says the flanges won't swap over.
