Newbie in Essex
Hi i am a newbie to all this, i have bought a 413 sammy 1990 it was on somones drive up the road to my parents it has been sitting for about 3 years so needs some work. I have done the engine and it starts now and is sweet, changed the cambelt, fan belt, fuel pump, oil and filter, it needs some welding to the floor behind the pedals and the same the other side, and inside the wheel arches at the end of the sills. It has the roof and rear section that lifts off, i am not into offroading so only bought this as a project to work on, just need to know how well the repairs have to be for offroading does it have to be to mot standard? I think it is to far gone to mot as i think it will need discs and pads and some bushes here and there, does any one know what it will be worth? Regards Gazza

Bit too far gone? Compared to some i've seen, yours looks almost mint. These motors are a labour of love. Are looking at this as a project for profit?
I'd say worth is hard to judge. Depends on where, when n who's looking at the time your selling.

Thanks for the welcome, I must admit it does look good in the photo, that's what i thought when i saw it on the drive. had i quick look over it and done a deal, then when i got it home i had a good look and i think it is only good enough for off road use, i have spent a few quid already on getting the engine going and metal for the welding, so i don't think i would get my money back if i was to go for MOT standard. Every thing works ie electrics, brakes, gears, steering, but i think it would need a couple of tyres (tread is ok but abit perished where its been standing) discs and pads (brakes work ok but pads are worn and discs are lipped and rusty) i have noticed that some of the rubber chassis to body mounts have small splits in them, is that an MOT fail? I have addea some more pics after stripping it

Honestly that doesn't look too bad, as long as it hasn't rotted out around the body mounts behind the front seats then it's all easily fixed and with the prices of sjs rising at the moment I would say it would be worth doing it all to MOT standard and selling it as they aren't worth half as much without a ticket. the small splits in the rubber body mounts probably wouldn't even get an advisory and you can pick up tyres cheap as chips for sjs as everyone upgrades to offroad tyres. also discs and pads are pretty cheap for them.

Hi Scot thanks for the info, it is sitting me in about £400 at the moment, i have got all the bits to do the welding and will be doing it over the next few weeks, what do you think it would be worth with an MOT? There is a place near me that has "no pass no fee" so it might be worth putting it in see what it fails on and go from there, I would love to use it off road myself but dont get many weekends off with my job so it would be a waste of time and money just having it sitting around.

it all depends. if it's 100% solid and tidy (no big dents etc.) with a good engine then you could possibly double your money I'd say £700/800 is about average at the moment. I have seen them go for around the £1000 mark for a minter with no mods though.
Just remember as well that you only really need to worry about rot that is within 12" of a seat belt or body mount for the MOT.
a common thing to do with the sills is to chop them off and replace them with box section have a look here. but yours shouldn't be too hard to fix.
