Need some advice on my diff.
I've damaged the rear diff in my 1988 sj413.
I'm having trouble finding a replacement.
I've magaed to source a front and rear diff off of a samurai. Can I replace just the rear one and keep the front as it is or will I need to change both over. Also will they fit?
I've read though Scottys post about diffs and I think I should from what I understand

Re: Need some advice on my diff.
They are a straight swap but different ratios.
Ideally both should be changed, if you don't and you use 4wd on anything but the slipperiest surface damage will be done as the front and rear wheels will be trying to turn at different speeds.

That's what I thought you might say. Guess I'll be busy over the weekend then. Thanks

Yes change them both.
What was damaged on the rear diff?

I think the drive shaft bearing broke and went in the pinion gears and damaged the edges of the teeth. Not sure if it's still usable

Re: Need some advice on my diff.
I I know have these new diffs for front and rear. Went to fit them and they are the wrong size. The housing is allot smaller on the new one. i was told when I brought them they were off of a sammurai. Is this in any way usable ie. Internals . From when I have read on here sounds like they are off of a sj410 . Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like 410. Totally useless to you.

What diff will a Spanish sj413 samurai have in it?

Should be a 3.7:1 the only way to tell for sure is to physically check the ratio.
