Anyone near Bristol that can help?
Anyone near Bristol that can help?
Hi All,
New here, introduced myself and am now looking for some help!
I think I have found a Samurai 413 local to me for a good deal, howevev it has a snapped front half shaft.
Is there anyone local with a car trailer that could give me hand?
Beer Tokens and fuel money on standby!
Also anyone selling a front drivers side halfshaft for a 413 Samurai.
Cheers Beardy

Is it a samurai or a 413? Samurais have wider axles and longer shafts.Beardy89 wrote:Hi All,

You can tell by looking at the front spring mounts.
For a samurai, the springs mounts will be slightly outside the chassis rails like this
(I think these are with YJ springs, halfway through conversion but it looks similar)
410 or 413 axle the spring mount will line up with the chassis like this

Definitely samurai...
Looks like the wheel bearing has collapsed, so you will probably need to replace those too.
Does the vehicle have free wheeling hubs?
If so you could probably stick new wheel bearings in, set them to free and move it with the broken shaft... or remove the shaft
Does it have to move far?

Re: Anyone near Bristol that can help?
to make it easier to change i would see if anyone has the entire hub assembly with the shaft included
then you can replace the whole thing with 12mm, 13mm, 15mm spanners and some pliers

You would have to remove the steering track rod end from the hub. The split pins can often break if they are old so I would advise taking a replacement split pin just in case
(I correct my earlier statement I think you need a 17mm for this one )
