Where's it going ?
Where's it going ?
Oil consumption
Since putting the vit lump in I'm using quite
A lot of oil compared to the old tired lump.
It was at max on the dip stick and around 150 miles later
It's around a 3rd of minimum.
It's not leaking. There's no blue smoke on start up or full
Throttle underload. No leaks.
I'd this a normal amount on the via lump as it seems excessive to
Me.

The only time I used that much in a vit lump was because the valve stem seals were shagged
Sid James gone but never forgotten

Re: Where's it going ?
Cannot comment about the Vitara 4 pot units but my V6 just keeps going with just the minimum amount of oil usage, infact i cannot remember when i last topped it up.
This specific Vitara lump has been the most reliable and enjoyable engine to drive since i started driving many moons ago,i guess if anything did go wrong then thats when the wonga would start mounting up.
On the look out for a XL7 2.7,just waiting for the right one.

Re: Where's it going ?
u sure its not leaking?? might be running back along the trans or something to somewhere u dont expect.. maybe selotape some kitchen roll to places it might leak and go boot it up and down a few hills and see if u have any fresh oil. also after a good boot check the exhaust pipe for oil residue, its very hard to see blue smoke in the mirrors when u got ur foot down unless u blow the head gasket lol.
Or maybe put a go pro under the car and go for a little blat.. might show some drips?

Re: Where's it going ?
Definitely no leaks from anywhere
Externally. Engines clean all over.
I had a mate watch the exhaust on start up and
Once warm he followed me home and I gave it some real
Welly. Nothing.
My local car parts shop recommended following at night
With headlights on the rear of the car to see the smoke
He said he had a similar problem with an old audi.

Re: Where's it going ?
It may be a total long shot but worth a suggestion, many many moons ago i rebuilt a engine and could not work out why the oil level was wrong and it was all down to me not putting the oil dip stick in far enough after the rebuild,it was possibly as much as 3/4'' that i had not made it fully seated into the block hence this gave me the problem.Lucky enough did not cause any damage but could well of done.
Hope you find the cause of this problem quickly.

Re: Where's it going ?
I actually did something similar...
I had a 1.6 engine fitted with 1.3 sump.... but think I accidentally put the 1.6 dipstick in
Filled up to the perfect level, but there was way too much and it got blown out of the rocker breather and into the airbox.... You would definitely notice that!
You could drive for half a mile and the cloud of smoke would still be where you set off from
Not related to the magical disappearing oil sorry Andy
