its been a while, but we have a new snag!

Post by robbie1985 » Mon Sep 07, 2015 8:29 pm

The last week or so i have been experiencing a bad vibration that sounds and feels as though its coming up from underneath the seats, so i am thinking that it could be coming from the transfer box or drive shaft. I've checked the transfer box mount and it doesn't appear to to have any excess play in it which leaves me thinking that its drive shaft/diff.
do you guys have any ideas as to what else it could or have had the same problems?

cheers

As far as I can tell they are alright, how would they act if they where worn? Would it just be excessive play in the prop shaft?

Just checked the uj's on the driveshaft and there is around 1 mm of play going into the diff so I'm thinking that's the problem?

I had one uj go that I didn't notice until it was beyond repair, and another that caused a nasty vibration

There are 3 transfer box mounts..I'd have another look. Have you tried tightening them? Does the rubber bushes on them look worn?

Cheers donkeychomp, I'm gonna get the car up on a ramp tomorrow so I can have a better look. And Robbie I think I might chat to my parts guy and see if he has a drive shaft I can borrow, before I spank £60 on new uj's. I noticed this morning that I can't feel the vibration through the gear stick but the low range stick was vibrating, so i'm swinging towards the uj's or at least the rear on as it has the most play in it.

So I replaced both the uj's on the drive shaft and although the harshness and frequency of the vibration and noise has been reduced dramatically it still persists. Hawever I am almost 99% sure that it is coming from the rear of the car as the new ujs have tightened all the drive up. Any ideas where I can look now? I'm thinking of draining the diff and pulling both hubs off to check for wear. Although I did notice that the drivers side rear spring is sagging I wonder if that may have anything to do with it? I doubt it though. On the plus the new uj's have made a massive difference as the olds ones were well shot.

Does anyone know a good place that I can order poly bushes for the rear diff? Need the set to replace the bushes with, figured I'd may as well upgrade them at the same time
