Hi All,
I am an absolute newbie and have today bought my first SJ.
I have bought a 1989 SJ 413 with manual hubs, are these better than automatic hubs or vice versa? As i was contemplating swapping them if it is beneficial.

Re: Manual Hubs Vs Automatic
It doesnt really make much difference, Its all down to personal choice, all though I have heard you can't tow an sj with automatic wheel hubs, (but to be honest don't really understand why) I have manual locking hubs and they seem to be most common and cheapest, they also are pretty easy to strip down and clean, I certainly wouldn't want to change to auto locking hubs as mine do the job just fine!

Manual every time. the auto ones are known for playing up.

Auto is an unecesarry thing that could go wrong. I can turn my manual ones by hand, so why bother with auto?
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

You can also get fixed hubs... just to add something else.
I dont think i have ever unlockd my front hubs, only to make sure they are no seized on!
Suppose that they are useful if you brake something on the front drive train.
