Gday Everyone. How's it going? I'm pleased to be finally making a post on here having joined a few months ago whilst I was looking for an SJ410 to buy from Australia and have kept until I arrived. I did manage to find the perfect car and my uncle (in the UK) has kept it for me until now. I arrived from Aus the other day and have gone through the process of taxing and insuring the beast.

So, the car: 1986 SJ410 soft top with the original F10A engine, perfect colour of canary yellow (I think. Someone else called it mustard?)

I'm preparing for a big overland trip through Europe, central Asia, Russia and back again and there's much to do before I'll be able to head off. I'm hoping that you guys don't get too sick of my questions on the forums here over the next 6 weeks! Unfortunately I'm not experienced with vehicles or mechanics but I have 6 weeks to learn as much as possible.

The very first thing I need to get is a rear vision mirror so I can pass an MOT in a few weeks. I've done a bit of a search and asked at euro car parts today. Ebay didn't perform as expected and mainly came up with crap or stuff that was expensive. Anyone got any ideas on where to look?

My SJ410 has a standard non-dipping mirror, not sure if the later SJ413 had this feature? but a nice thing to have if you have a choice for when driving abroad.

Overall it is fine and it does look good, as with everything though upon looking closer there are some issues which I'll be doing my best to sort out over the next few weeks, probably with a visit or several to a local mechanic as I have little to zero experience. There is some rust on the body which I know is a pretty common thing in the UK and there appears to be some oil leaking from the engine block but not immediately obvious where from and very slowly leaking obviously, I thought if I wiped it all off I might be able to then see where it's coming from but my mate suggested just leave that part to the mechanic.

There is one thing I really need to ask you guys who have SJs, should it start with the clutch pushed in? It starts absolutely fine if I chuck it neutral but it wont start with the clutch right to the floor?
