Does anyone know anything about this style of SJ410 wheel?

Post by rharris19880 » Wed Jun 22, 2016 6:20 pm

Dear All

New to the forum and hoping that someone might be able to help me. Does anyone know anything about this style wheel?

https://www.flickr.com/photos/sam4605/3928152549

I have just bought an SJ410 it has the more typical style rim you find on SJ410's in the uk on but i really like the look of the alternative.
Was the style in the picture above more common in the Australian/ Asian markets only or was it on only really early versions?
It looks like it maybe bigger than the 15" also but that could just be how it looks in the pictures.

Any guidance much appreciated.

Best regards

Rich

It's a 'commercial' rim sold with tin tops (with no rear window or seats) or with softops with no windows, or with KJA pickups,

They do come up for sale every now and again, but they are 15" the same as standard.

Ah interesting many thanks for the reply. In that case i will stick as i am for the SJ410.
(I also have a 1988 SJ413K, would that have most likely had those wheels when it left the factory?)

For the SJ410 (newest purchase) i would like to get an aggressive tread tyre, mainly for looks in truth as it will not get off road that much.
I want to keep it standard height, standard wheels and fit 195/80/15 Insa Turbo Special Track - as i like the tread pattern

Does anyone have a picture of a SJ410 standard ride height, standard 15" rims on these wheels as i would love to see what it would look like before i purchase.

Thanks in advance.

The special track 195 stands just under 30" tall, so will be taller than the 195 road tyre
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

I'd probably drop it down to a 70 or 75 profile, it's surprising how much bigger they are when you go from a standard road tyre to an all terrain / mud tyre

Thanks guys, the pictures are much appreciated, Jimny looks ace!

On the SJ410 I am wanting to try and get a more old school look, so a taller skinnier tyre is what i would like to try and achieve.
So from what i read here the 195/80/15 Special Track will therefore catch on a standard SJ410 standard rim when at standard height?

Has anyone else out there got an SJ that is sporting a similar look, maybe i should look to lift it just a little to give me the clearance? Would these wheels fit if i fitted a set of small lift shackles front and back? What is the shortest shackle typically used, Can you get anything smaller than a 2". Has anyone out there any pictures of SJ on shackles running standard wheels and these tyres or something similar? big ask, but i thought worth a go?

Personally if I were you I wouldn't get special tracks unless you're planning to mostly off road it. They are super good in mud, but terrible on the road. Not very much grip and very noisy.
There are plenty of other good mud terrains out there that are also good in mud. You should be able to put 195 tyres on easy I would have thought....
I had 195x80r15 insa turbo saharas on my samurai with no lift and then were perfect

I loved the special tracks, the aggressive look and great off road, but as Twiss said no grip, especially in the wet and noise lots of noise

Thanks guys, really appreciate the advise. Pictures below was the kind of look i was after, but cant seem to find anything out there that has this type of old school tread pattern.
The special tracks was the next closest thing i came up with?

The car will not see much off road but it will also not get loads of miles full stop so i am not too worried about how the ride feels in truth.
If i did not go for special tracks can anyone make a suggestion for a nice chunky tire with a skinny tall retro look?

Looking at the pictures above they do seem to be running lift shackles so actually i think maybe that is the way i should go after all.
It may read like i am making it up as i go here and i guess i am a bit! I know what i like the look of but just not sure how to get it so thanks again for everyone's help.

Best regards

Those tyres are usually fitted to L*** R***** so don't do it XD

Camskill are quite good, these are all 195 /80 /15, check out the Insa Sahara's that's probably the ones I'm going to be going for.

Also, when you say offroad, do you want to hardcore offroad, or just trundle down lanes?
