Hello!!!!

Post by Biggseh » Fri Jul 08, 2016 6:47 pm

Hello guys,

Simon here with a (not so)newly acquired Samurai. Been following this forum for a short while and to understand why you need a little backstory! My mum had it from new and it's been sat in the garden since 04 after she could no longer drive it after her brain haemorrhage (now has an xl7) , my brother decided he was a bodywork specialist in 07 and sanded down the tub leaving it in horrible shape, and this year I've decided to bring it back to it's former glory! It's in fairly bad nick (chassis is fine as far as I'm aware) rustwise and I'm wondering about the best method of getting rid of her many many holes, any advice? SO FAR I've reconditioned the engine and am wanting to get the body off to have another look at the condition of the body to see what actually needs doing, can you still get body panels for these things?

anyway, went a little off track there, hey guys, hope I receive a warm welcome and I'm sure I'll annoy you all with me very retarded questions for the forseeable future! :salute:

Simon.

Helloo & welcome!! :welcome: Looks like an awesome project! We need to keep these old gals alive so it's great that she's getting some love, first step in my books would be give it a good clean/pressure wash and see what decent metal you have left to work with, you can come across panels you need occasionally on eBay etc and I'm sure many of the guys on here may have a few common rotator panels from donors, if not some sheet metal and a welder is always a great alternative & a brilliant/necessary skill to learn :) can't wait to see some progress/update pics! :snap:

Hi and welcome. Looks like the standard rot. Most can be repaired with just sheet metal and a bit ot time and effort.

If you are going to weld it up and off road it looks like a good virtual lift candidate :)

Welcome! I would recommend a body off resto....makes some repairs loads easier when you can flip the body over

Ah, Just figured out the notify me thing doesn't work! thanks for the warm welcome guys, looking forward to having a bash at welding (oh god!) My dad has a MIG welder thing that detects metal thickness bla bla bla, anybody know the best sheet thickness and weld material to use? I'll probably end up with more holes in it than before hahaha! is there another place I should post updates or is here okay?

Cheers guys,
Simon
