Estimated pull to recover a stuck SJ

http://forum.suzukiclubuk.co.uk/vi ... mated+pull

Loads are increased by an unknown factor when using snatch recovery technique.
1988 Samurai - Truck Cab & Tray Back - 1.6 8v & HIF44 - Snorkel - Stack Exhaust - PAS, YJs & 33s - Trussed, Gusseted & Pumpkin Capped Axles - 4.3 R&Ps - 4.16 T/Box - Rear Air Locker - Full Float Back Axle & Discs - RCV Front Shafts - X-Eng Handbrake - Custom Fuel Tank

I didn't do snatch recoveries with the tow bar, only just small pulls. If thinks looked too stuck I would use the winch.

Twiss was that video about the joys of being short
Sid James gone but never forgotten
Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

ScottieJ wrote:A snatch recovery done properly is one of the best recovery techniques there is, sometimes it is needed and if done properly can put less strain on your recovery points than the incorrect use of a normal rope or strap.

If you want to take a 4x4 offroad at all then it needs to have adequate front and rear recovery points and you need to have recovery gear that is up to the job.

Everyone gets stuck and if you don't have the correct recovery gear in and on your 4x4 then you are putting yourself, others and your vehicle at risk.
Where would you recommend I fit a front recover point on my SJ?

The shackle reversal towers obscure the front of the chassis rails,

You could bolt/weld some tabs on the side made out of 8-10mm plate with 25mm holes to put shackles through.

Or maybe something like these bolted on to the shackle reverse towers could work https://www.famousfour.co.uk/new_parts/ ... ?part=8468

You might want to reinforce the chassis rails if you do either of those though, the chassis rails are thin and I've seen many bumpers etc rip the bolt holes out during heavy recoveries.
It's a shame you can't really sleeve the chassis rails when that conversion is fitted.
