Iv got a funny feeling my rear diff is dying. Iv not had any dealings with it before, so im not sure. There is quite a loud klunck coming from the rear when i pull away, and when i change gear, and when i accelerate sharply. Also there is a continuous vauge knocking also coming from the back, that i thought was the exhaust moving about but now i think may be something more sinister.
Any help would be most appreciated

Its defo not a uj, i had all the props off last night to make sure. Also checked the rear wheel bearings earlier and they seem fine. There is no vibrations in the cab apart from the initial klunck and jolt when i pull away.

Check for excessive play in the pinion bearing.

Not really a home job.
You got to strip diff, remove pinion, get bearing off, press a new one on.
After that you have got to reset the backlash pre load ect in the diff. You can do this "agriculturally" like i have done but mine dosent do many miles.
I would be looking for a new diff, or if you are looking to lower the gearing fitting a set or front vitara ring and pinions.
And bloody hell, i let a rear sj axle go for £50 last weekend and i thought that was good money
