Bloody hell, sounds like my last engine. Except the headgasket kept going in different areas, when you say used the wrong coolant, what do you mean by that? Isn't Blue blue and Pink pink?

Who knows what was in there.
It's not that simple nowadays dean, you can't just go by the colours and some aren't great for ally engines, chances are it just wasn't changed for years though so it lost its corrosion inhibitors, most only last 2 years or so.
A bit more progress, more bonnet repairs and I notched the brace to give more intake clearance for the 16v And more painting, not much more left to paint now

I like it when it gets to this stage. Hopefully have it fired up later in the week once the fuel tank is back in, I've fitted the vitara fuel pump into the sj tank.
All the brakes are sorted and working, discs all round.
