2.0 16v vitara engine oil and filter

Post by Matsuzuki » Thu Aug 24, 2017 7:09 pm

Quick question, planning on doing an oil change on my year 1999 t reg vitara 2.0 16v can anyone recommend what type of oil to use? I know it's probably an obvious question but my cars an import so when I look on any of the parts suppliers web sights no information comes up (apparently Suzuki only did the 1.6 in this year in the uk). Likewise for the oil filter.
Cheers

It's the j20a engine as used in the Grand vitaras

I would recommend 5w30 Castrol magnatec, its the best oil to keep the dreaded slapping timing chain away when cold.

The oil filter is part number 16510-61A21 it should be the same as the 1.6 anyway. I like to use genuine suzuki oil filters on the J and H series engine, they are cheap enough.

Thanks Scottie
Just one more question, I'm changing the discs and pads but once again no information on any of the usual data bases. Are the discs and pads the same as on the 1.6 version?
I'm guessing they were upgraded for the 2 litre but I don't fancy stripping the brakes down and taking them into the shop to compare

I would imagine they are the same brakes as they use on the lwb 16v vitara.

Has it got 15 or 16" wheels?

Solid or vented front discs?

If you take a wheel off and post a pic I'll be able to advise.
