cd player

i haze a 2009 grand vitara sz4 which recently had a new battery fitted ,on picking the vehicle up i noticed the radio still worked but the cd player reoeatedly said "check disc" i have inserted a cleaning disc which played perfectly but when i tried to play a normal disc i got the same message ,has anyone had this problem ,i have tried recorded and shop bought discs both have same outcome ,hope someone can help many thanks
