Hi all,
Hoping someone might be able to help here...
My 1.9TD Samurai (original XUD9) has been having fuelling issues when under load (dying completely when going uphill and causing enough vacuum in the fuel line to suck the filters priming bulb in), almost certainly caused by rust and diesel bug in the tank as she's been sat with not much fuel in for far too long (5+ years).
Anyway, we've cleaned out the tank and flushed the fuel lines, and all is looking much better, but I have a question about the fuel outlet pipe in the tank: As far as I can tell, the 1.9TD used the same tank as the Spanish carb models - does the outlet pipe have a 1-way valve and/or mesh on the end?
There is resistance when blowing into this pipe but not when sucking - thinking this could either be a 1-way valve (that I can't find any reference to) or that a load of diesel bug/sludge made it's way through a mesh and is now effectively creating a 1-way valve (and we therefore have some more cleaning to do).
If anyone has any photos of the tank internals that would be great!
Cheers,
Mark

As far as I’m aware there isn’t a one way valve but I think there is a mesh on the pick up. I can check on a spare Spanish tank I have in the workshop on wed eve for you though I’ll try my best to remember.

Re: Fuelling Issues on 1.9TD - Fuel Tank Question
Mine was doing the same as yours Mark, turned out to be priming bulbs at fault on 2 different bulbs. Bypassed these and not had an issue since
