Hi,
Im new to the whole offroad scene and also to sj's but ive took the plunge and bought my first offroader which is a unfinished project :(
The guy has fitted a 8v vitara engine in it and also fitted SU carbs but it wont run, bit of a gamble but i like a challenge and looking forward to finishing the project.
So its a 8v vit engine with carbs as standard then the su carbs have been fitted (fully reconned) does anyone know what jets/springs should be in it to suit the 1.6 8v engine and also what throttle cable will fit as it doesnt have any cable fitted also from the image attached can someone identify the carb as the guy i bought it of doesnt no what carb it is nor what it came off :(
Thanks

Re: Picking up my SJ on sunday
Hi there!
Welcome to the SJ owners collective! ...and Suzuki club uk!
That carb is an SU HIF44, the correct model carb for the engine. Ideally you should have a yellow spring and a BDL needle.
I just used a standard SJ/Samurai throttle cable for mine... with a new end grip thingy installed on the cable
Whereabouts are you from if you dont mind me asking?

Thanks for the welcome im from scotland east coast
Just seen this post saying i need the BFM needle it is a 1.6 vit engine thats in it but your saying i need the BDL? Whats likely to be in the carb? and whats the difference just size?
Vehicle, Carb, Needle, Spring, Adapter Needed
SJ410, HIF38, ADS, RED, NO
Sj413/Samurai, HIF44, BDL, RED, YES
Vitara 1.6 8v, HIF44, BFM, YELLOW, YES
You say i just need a standard sj throttle cable any idea where i would get one?

Hello and welcome.
Just looking at your picture, the leads could be in the wrong position. THe firing order is 1342 on the sj. How ever if he marked them up before he took them off like that then there shouldnt be an issue

The BDL and the BFM are basically the same...
See picture!
Red is BDL, Green is BFM, Blue is BCZ (what rhino ray reckons is best in a 1.3)
