5 speed

Can any SJ 5 speed box be fitted to a 1.0l 4 speed engine or is there only specific ones that will work?

You will need a 5-speed box from a 410...

413 and samurai boxes are different to 410 ones

Only the 410 5speed gearbox fits. 413 and sammy have larger bellhousings

Thanks for the fast replies! lol.

Well I was on the motorway today and managed to get my lil 1.0l to do 70, but it was doing like 6000rpm lol.
Another gear is needed methinks...

I was thinking about another engine conversion as my last SJ i did the 1.6 8v conversion. Made such a difference to the drive! lol. The 1.3 that was in it was dead mind so it was hardly surprisng...

BUT as my 1.0l runs spot on it seems a waste to rip it out and a gearbox change is probably a bit easier and quicker :-p

That too. Roll on payday so I can see if I can afford a dishwasher AND big tyres! lol.
The other half has set up my priorites in order, apparently the dishwasher is more important than beefy tyres :S

I love the little 970cc lump, its an awesome little engine. Sometimes I wish I had kept it and stayed with 30" tyres. I didn't break anything back then
I would rather the 1l over a 1.3 anyday! Better engines IMO.

And your other half is oh so wrong
