Vitara 1.6 into Samurai 413

Post by Smalljeep » Mon May 02, 2011 12:45 pm

The engine is swapped over from a 1994 vitara 8v 1.6 into my samurai it was a 1.3 1991.
Mechanically its finished with the exception of the flywheel cover. I need a bit of help though, the wiring of the altenator plugs is different, im not sure how to wire up the starter, and the dizzy and coil are also an issue for wiring.
Any help or guides appreciated.

The alternator should be an easy one.
Vitara plugs are round, SJ plugs are square

In the SJ Plug there will be three wires...

Two are white and yellow and thick, one is white and red and thin.

Put ring connectors on the yellow and white ones, then connect them to the post terminal sticking out of the vit alternator.
Then put a spade connector on the small white and red wire, then it goes to one of the connectors in the round socket on the alternator.

You will know when it's the correct one when the dashboard battery light is on (with the ignition on and the engine not running)
If its the wrong connector, the dash light wont illuminate

Hope this helps!

thanks thats great about the altenator

btw i forgot to say, the key barrel was jammed in the anus, i just ripped out the wires from the back and crossed them over until it started usually involving sparks until something happened, any way i can have a switch to start it up.

Is this just on offroader, what about security. But yes you can just use switches.

Something like this would work fine. You need one with a descent ampage rated switch though.

looks good ive got a few heavy duty switches lying about the house, ill give them a go.
No this is only for off road, no need for security, theres never enough petrol in it for them to take it far anyhow

That's my usual theft deterrent ;)

+ the super loud exhaust is loud enough to wake me up, and gives me time to get dressed and jump in the other car to hunt them down :D

Someone would have an interesting time trying to steal my SJ today... it's got no track rod on it ;)
