i love my SJ.. but....

not a practical everyday car.. my job has changed a bit... so im having to use my SJ more (or my vfr750). and its not liking it. 40mph max isn't good. the SPOA on road is unstable as we all no....

i have a standard SJ as well.. with no engine.... and have been fighting off the urge to bin/sell the lot for a jimny....
dont want to really.... under the SJ bonnet its nice and clear. Jimny... not so... too new too much clever shit.


put allot of time and effort in my little 'post van' wouldn't get a 1/4" back what i spent on it.... so stripping it would be the only option...




ok QUESTION.

you have SJ's... we are all agreed they arn't particularly stable anyways. what speeds do you average? one of my friends says his sits at 70.... i no what that means.. screaming the tits off it.

should i revert it back to SPUA?
or are there simple things i can do to make it smoother... someone suggested re greasing all the UJ's which is a start.

Mine does 70mph on the motorway all day long
Its all about the tyre size and engine power.

Bigger tyres = less acceleration + higher top speed
410 transfer box = more acceleration + lower top speed

As for the height, you're SJ is bloody huge I'm not surprised it drives like shit at speed.
With my 2-3" lift and nicely spaced wheels, it feels as stable as (if not more stable than) the standard configuration.

I can hit 75 flat out on a straight road, but I don't really go beyond 60 in a normal situation. On a dual carriage way/motorway I just find an artic. truck to sit behind at 58. On normal roads I usually sit at 45.

I'm too impatient for that, didn't put a 1600 in it for nothing

i use mine on a day to day can sit at 65 very comfortablly with out it screamming to much and pretty stable on corners i've never once thought it was going over using it on the road

I agree with tom... you should put the SPOA axles on one of them, then put the shackle reversal and lift springs on the other one.

When My Samurai was standard height and wheel size, I could sit at 70 on the flat on the motorway dropping down to 60 on hills and once hitting the magic 80mph on a downhill stretch of the m1 - I couldn't believe it either! But now I've got the rock lobster box on it and 235/75r15's it sits at 50mph occasionally making it to 60mph - its rubbish for motorways but that's just how it goes, If your having stability issues I'd say go back to SPUA and run some smaller 'road' or AT tyres, they make all the difference! - I heard somewhere that when you run knobblie tyres on the road each of the knobbles moves as it weight bears the road, and every time it moves it absorbs some of the energy it takes to drive you forward, not only does it take more effort to run a knobblie at high speed the movement makes the tyres warm up to which saps more power and on an SJ you need every bhp available!

See I reckon it would go a bit faster without the rocklobster... as I believe the ratio for 2H is still different to that of a samurai t-box
