water temperature gauge

Post by Smalljeep » Thu Jun 09, 2011 5:48 pm

hi there
i recently got a 52mm auxilary gague set and the water temp is the only one left to install the standard gague isnt right apparently a common problem when putting the 1.6 engine in to the samurai.
but i have this other gague for a better reading, but here is the probe connection:
Image
its too big to go where the exhisting sensor went, i see 2 places on the manifold i took out of another vitara, they seem to have wee tubes going to the carb, can i take them sensors off? what do they do? is it possible to have some sort of t junction.
But i also have no heater matrix anymore so there is just a copper pipe connecting the 2 pipes, would there be any sort of connection to plug this onto.
Any ideas would be great thanks.

Id tap the thermostat housing, take the thermostat out and put it in there.

Or get something like this:

Image

Put it in your top radiator hose. The normal practise I think is to have the small sensor for the dash and one in the rad hose for an electric fan

i already have no thermostat inside the housing but the wire going to the probe cant be kinked or cut because it cant be resealed as it has some gas in it.

By the way I have read your quote when it says 1/8" thread I suspect the size will not be 3.175mm or 0.125"
If we are talking water senders or oil senders they usualy are fittings with threads like BSP or NPT dia for a 1/8" BSP or NPT will be 9.7mm Outside dia
It' a 4x4 why not drive it across a field
