Headlights no power?

Post by Henry » Wed Jul 13, 2011 6:09 pm

Hey all, slowly working down my mot list.

Stuck at the head lights

No front, side or rear lights when i turn them on, or pull the stalk back to flash :er: Checked fuses and wiring seems to be ok. Going to have a poke around with the multi meter after tea, but any suggestions?

Does the rest of your wiring work : horn/wipers/dash fan

If not then maybe your fusible link has blown.
The headlights are on a different circuit to the tail lights so I would not expect both to fail.
Having said that it wouldn't run either though if that link in blown. :er:

Hi

Everything else works

Got power coming to the stalk on the dash from the white lead. Is there anyway i can bridge it to see if its the switch that is at fault? Ill pick through that wiring diagram and see

I lost one headlight once. Turned out the wire had frayed a little ways in from the plug, so I spliced it over to the other light, as in the diagram, but with a new bi of wire taken from an old vacuum cleaner. :cowboy::
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

if you link the white to the black/yellow wire the side and tail lights should come on.

These lights are switched positive. The headlights are switched negative.

If you connect the red wire to earth high-beam should come on. (this will spark a little if just poking a bit of wire in)
