Post by spanish sammy » Thu Aug 18, 2011 4:28 pm

Hi guys ive just bought a spanish 410 it has a 5 speed box as standard and along with it ive bought a complete vitara 1.6 spi which i wish to fit minus the spi.. my question is this.. is the 5 speeds bell housing on a late samurai the same as the 413s..as i dont want to source a box if its not needed also it is only for urban use i wont be off roading( seems a waste but i need to pull my jetski)

Yes all 1.3l Suzuki's gearboxes will mate up to the 1.6 with a conversion plate, however if your sj is a 410 with a 970cc engine then the bellhousing on the gearbox is too small to mate up to the 1.6.

You will need from a 413 / samurai

Flywheel
Clutch
Gearbox
And possibly the sump (might not be essential if its not going off road the vitara sump can sometimes come into contact with the axle depending how the conversion is done)

New engine mounts will also need to be fabricated and an adapter plate is the best way to mate the engine and gearbox.

If it was me personally I would fit the spi if you have the loom and ecu from the donar car, it won't be too hard if your not a retard :hahaha:

If not then you just want a coil and dizzy from either a 1.3 or 1.6 8v carbed zuki, the 410 coil has a ballast register and the others dont.

ok i should give you my idea and why its so..im in spain and here you cant modify your vehicle 1% or they wont ITV(mot) the vehicle and can take it off of you and impound it!! so heres the plan.. fit the 1.6 engine and gearbox..ive seen some topics where a guy removed the vit tb and blanked it to run the tb from the sammy so thats my plan because i need to make new mountings for the engine swap i will just remove the fan and move the whole thing forward enough to not need to cut the prop that way better clutch no adaptor plate or starter issue I will fit n su carb on a made up manifold so it looks like the standard single side draft carb and use original airbox with better filter and ofcourse 1.3 dizzy and an electric fuel pump.. my only worry is the gearing from the vit box to the sammy diffs but i have the vit diffs if needed.. am i mad or is this do able??

I see where you are coming from now, you need to keep it looking as close to standard as possible so no one notices

Here's a small write up showing roughly how to do what you are saying with the vit auto gearbox clicky not sure if baloo ever got it finished but there is a kit available in the US to do it with the vit auto clicky
