Rear disc conversion/Transfer brake

Rear disc conversion/Transfer brake

Hi, I'm going to have a go at fitting rear disc brakes to my sj and I've just got hold of these brake caliper mountings. = No hand brake on the rear wheels so do I fit a 410 transfer box with a centre brake? 31 inch special tracks = Rock lobster gears while I'm at it? Is there any particular year of 410 transfer box needed?
Silly Questions but I am new to SJ's. Thanks in advance for any advice. :thumbup:

What calipers are you going to use? I have read that rover 600 calipers fit and have the handbrake built in, though i think the cables need to be swaped as well.

I've got my eye on some original sj calipers. ( Is this good? )

They should be fine if your going to get a transferbox handbrake. :thumbup:

You have a couple of options really... You can put a 410 drum handbrake on, the only thing you may encounter is difference in flange bolt sizes
Easily solved with either a a flange swap, or by drilling some new holes!

You could also get an x-brake, they are disk handbrakes that go on the same place, and are roughly the same size.
You can get the x-brake from x-eng in horsham, west sussex

There are also other companies that do the disk handbrakes, such as Spidertrax

One thing about the x-brake, their downside is they can need a stronger return spring to ensure the brake disengages properly every time...

The 600 calliper has to be mounted at 2 oclock so the bleed nipple sits at the top

I have the calipers now.. They'll need rebuilding first as the're a bit manky.

or 10 o'Clock depending what side your looking at :)

very interesting this, i've got a pair of Ford Scorpio calipers with built in Handbrake that are a perfect fit for the SJ discs, I think Im going to have to fabricate a bracket for them though, rather than use the SJ caliper mounts
