Does an SJ float??
Kinda weird question but.....
I know they kinda float for a time (I've been washed down a few river crossings) but they eventually take in water
In deep water mine takes in water via the speaker holes in the footwells, through some holes in the firewall, the split gearstick gaiter and the holes in the floor that need welding up
If I can completely seal up the interior, door seals etc so that no water could get in until it came over the rear side panels (its a soft top) would it float in still water??
Anyone heard of one that did?

Re: Does an SJ float??
James may's red hardtop SJ floated in the Top Gear off road special...
Mine has too many holes in it to float.... besides, when I'm off road I prefer to take the drain plugs out.
That way you will sink faster, get grip on the bottom of whatever you're driving through and get out faster
Wet legs and arse is part of the fun

Re: Does an SJ float??
Yeah I do exactly the same for the same reasons
anyone can cope with cold water pouring into the top of your boots but its when it hits your bollocks thats when it sorts the men from the boys!
BUT if I could get it to float I have a wee 5hp outboard that would fit on the rear door
We go to a few places where the water is too deep even for high snorkels and nutcases and it would be a neat trick
And it would save me doing this!!
Will have another look at that Top Gear episode

Fill all the voids with expanding foam, inside the sills etc, the bigger the tyres the more air you can get in them.
TBH I'm not sure how well one would float but it might work
or just buy a Dutton Commander body

I know that I can see the road behind my drivers side speaker.
There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
