Post by Christoff » Mon Sep 19, 2011 9:32 pm

Im going to look at a Jimny for my mum to buy this week

Can anybody give me some pointers for what to look at apart from the obvious things. Any common areas to watch out for etc

thanks

Under the rear storage tray. Rear body mounts. Let it tick over over for a few minutes then blip the throttle, watch for a blue puff.. oil seals... I've seen a few with rear door hinge problems.. Nothing major that tho, more annoying. If you have a vitara key take it and check the locks if it's an early one, although they won't start it they will probably open it as if the key was made for the lock...

To name a few.

If you have an sj long key that might work, the early short keys won't. Rear spring and back box. On mine I had to replace them straight away... The back box is a bugger tho because you have to take the whole back end off to replace it

When you say that other suzuki keys work, is that a fault or just a quirk of the design?

Not sure but I based it on, I had 5 vitara keys and everyone opened the doors. But because there coded they won't start it...

take it for a good test drive & get up to around 60mph make sure theres no wobble & check the whole of the rear floor & also put it in 4wd & listen for a click when the vacume fwh's lock to make sure they are working & the light on the dash stays lit up & not flashing

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the t box listen to a whining when taking up drive because the chain can stretch and there is no adjuster on it
