Project KJA
hi, thought i would share some pics of my first project, only had it a day and its in bits all over the place. plan is to take the body off and concentrate on that first. Wings need welding, new battery tray, a few plates in the roof, drivers floor, all along the bottom of the rear a lot of prep to remove hamerite paint off back and roof and a respray. Most of the body mounts came off easy, then the rubbers fell apart so ill need to find new ones. apart from the front 2 by the foot wells, rusted beyond recognition, dunno how to get them off yet without destroying the studs , only things stopping me from getting the body off now. bonnets needs a bit of plate, and one of the head light mounts. I dont know if i should keep it the same colour or spray it another colour. Any thoughts let me know.

Re: Project KJA
hi
looks like a bit of work uve got there.
regarding the body mounts. a couple of mine were stuck and a good ammount of wd40, lifting it up and down, jacking it up and down, and twisting the metal parts with a big set of mole grips did the trick.
let me know if you find some body mount rubbers. the only ones i could find with a quick search were from thailand and quite expensive.

Hi, its not to bad, will be worth it when it's done. I found a body mount kit made of poly at mountain goat performance, that's quite expensive at £88, that's the only one I've found so far.
Cheers

mantra 4x4 do a body mount kit.
i use a 25mm hole saw and drilled of my bodymount washers as i couldnt undo them. now the cabs laying on its back i can get to them easier.
my kjas in a lot of bits at the moment. check you spring mounts on the rear and the fuel tank support. mount for rust.

Also check the chassis below the tubes that support the rear bed. The tubes fill with mud/water and rot the chassis. Another place I have found rot is the extra section welded to the arch in the chassis just below the rear cab mounts. It looks OK from the outside but goes very thin.

Go hamerite hammered blue. I was going to paint mine that. A nice dark blue from a distance, then close up it'll have sparkly silver bits in it and its quite thick so hopefully will reduce deep scratches.
(It wont look hammered if mixed well)

Re: Project KJA
I ended up cutting the nuts off. Yea I've found more rot in the floors around the channel the mounting bolts are in, the whole lot needs rebuilding. The Body's ready to come off, but need some more body's to lift it off. Once it's off will go right through it. a lot needs cutting out and replacing. Chassis seems ok so far but will check everything mentioned. Its going to take time to do but will be worth it in the end. Hope to get it off this weekend.
Does any one know where I can find replacement wiper arms, they are both broken, and un fixable.
