Any one else had a brand new SJ

Post by Team Pink » Tue Oct 25, 2011 6:37 pm

Showing my age here however in 1986 the farm where I worked provided me with a brand spanking new SJ 413 LWB pickup. I drove it for about 18 months before moving to a different job. It proved to be pretty reliable especially as it spent most of its time driving off road, generally at high speed.

Just wondering did any one else on here drive a SJ when they were new.

My mate (45ish) keeps telling me about how he bought one new and loved it.
Wish I could have kept one from new! Seeing how much I love mine now I reckon I would still have it ;)

I'm not sure if my dad had a new one but he did work for a suzuki dealer importing them.

some of my first memories are of offroading in an LJ :guns:

My step-dad had one that he bought with a trailer too, that was only 2 years old. He said it drove great, but wasn't big enough for him.

We still have the trailer, and now my truck has the hitch for it.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

When I moved farms it was the same job just working for some one else. I was given a 90 TD, for the work I was doing the SJ pick-up was better.
During the 18 months I used the SJ it never let me down, one or two issues though. A lot of the trim fell off, including the rear bumperettes and the mud flaps and what they were attached to. A lot of this was down to the use that the truck was put to. I was without a hand brake for 3 months as I snapped the cable when a log jammed underneath at speed. A new cable had to come from Japan!
The farm I worked on was a large fruit and veg farm, I ran the veg and cereals side of it. If the veg harvesters were on stop is cost us over £20/minute, I was positively encouraged to drive fast if I could reduce the time on stop, probably explains why I safari now.
I used to warn anyone else driving my truck about the brakes, they were so much better than almost everything else we drove at the time.

I love SJ front brakes they are so good!
