brakes!!!!! argh

Post by bigben » Fri Nov 11, 2011 10:13 pm

Right boys and girl i have been doing a few bits to the sj before the mot in a coupple of weeks and its first propper outing one of which being the brake lines which i orderd from dave at llama 4x4. Now when ordering i had a quick peek under the beast to see if it was male or clip type fixing, big locking nut so hey must be the male type....... wrong lol it looks like neither type the brake pipe goes into the flexy line with a threaded 10mm nut and then a further 19mm nut secures it to the chassis. soo is mine just an early female with nut instead of clip or am i missing something? Just wanted your knowhow before i ring dave so i can get the correct ones.

NOwwwww when i came to take the front flexy lines out yep you guessed it i rounded them off and no matter how much wd and heat i used there was only one option, wrench the pipes in half like he man and get fluid in the eyes up the nose and in the fone so i could try and save the nipple at the other end with a socket which thank feck i did. Now i am left with no pipes on the front so how would i go about getting new ones? I have pipe but no knowledge on how to terminate ends etc???

HELPPP any advice on where to go from here? (sorry for the lengthy essay lol)

Sorry I meant to reply to this the other day

Correct me if I'm wrong but there should be a clip on the opposite side of the 19mm fitting and the same side as the 10mm union on the brake line.

The flexy itself is female as the brakeline union should thread into it?

To make new hard lines you need a flaring tool and some of the pictured unions as well as some new copper brakeline.

If you had male flexies then I think they look like this

Hmm no they look like both lol they have the 19mm nut on the one side and also another locking nut 19mm on the other side and the copper pipe screws in with a 10mm nut? I'll try upload some pics in the morning.

A flarer and some nuts are now on order thanks for the help so far
