Anyone else snapped this?!

Post by Butler » Tue Jan 17, 2012 5:50 pm

Tightening up my rear shocks the other day as they were a little loose and snapped/sheared one of the top mounts in half! So now my shocks is just about on it but not enough to poke out!
Anyone else done this or ideas round it? Know someone pretty sure can fix it..

It is technically on the chassis but hey don't stop most people on sj's! Got a think piece of wire wrapped round and twisted holding it in place ATM! :smokin:

Is there meant to be a pic?

If you mean the thread sheared off your upper shock mounts then yeah I have, both sheared off.

It will be a challenge to fix it with the body in place but you mght be able to, what you need to do is cut off both sides flush with the crossmember and then there is still another tack that you can't get to with a grinder underneath so you need it hit the mount from the back using a bit of bar and a hammer etc. to crack the welds and it'll eventually pop out the front.

Then I cut off a lower shock mount from a Ubolt plate, put it through the left over hole and welded it in place on both sides.

Hope that all makes sense?

Oh and watch your thumbs I clubbed mine pretty darn hard during the removal process
