alternator falling off...hmm

Post by donkeychomp » Mon Feb 20, 2012 11:41 pm

Had the usual fan belt squeak yesterday, went to check and the alternator bolts were all loose.

Hmm I think. Tighten everything back up and it lasted 2 miles, then more squeaks.

Took it back home and on closer inspection from underneath the bolt holding the alternator mounting bracket was barely screwed in.

So I've tightened everything up again, but I am amazed this has happened in the first place.

Has anyone else had this happen?

And more to the point...why?

I havent had the exact same thing happen, no...

On mine I accidentally snapped of the top alternator bolt, the one that goes into the water pump!
This lead to me only having the bottom two bolts!

I fixed it by cable tying the alternator to the chassis part of the engine mount ;)
(I did buy a new waterpump to put on, I just couldnt be bothered haha)

On my truck, the alternator bracket sheared off.
There's three ways of doing things:

The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.
