oil pressure...what's next I wonder?

Post by donkeychomp » Sun Feb 26, 2012 11:38 pm

Welcome back to my world of Suzuki pain. The oil light started flashing then came on constantly. I changed the switch on the engine, surprise surprise the light is still on. I've now noticed the top of the gearbox is covered in oil, though the dipstick (not me) says the oil level is fine. Any ideas?

I'm at my wits end with this anus. Owned it for years and all of a sudden EVERYTHING is going wrong with it.

Any advice is needed and welcome, though not what a mate (Disco owner) suggested, which involves a gallon of 4 star and a match...how I laughed.

Cheers chaps, and chapettes, Alex.

If there is oil on the back of the engine and the gearbox, it's probably either your distributor oil seal, or your fuel pump is breaking.

Both very easy fixes, and cheap! Worst case scenario is a new fuel pump and you can get an electric one for £30

Clean the area up, then run the engine and you should see where its coming from

when was the engine last serviced with a new oil filter etc?

low oil pressure can be caused by a number of things but my one suggestion would be to not drive anywhere or run the engine until you have fixed the issue, for short periods of time to check if the issue is resolved is ok.

Main causes.

1. clogged oil filter, how old is the fitted filter?

2. problem with the oil pick up, drop the sump and check that the screen on the bottom isn't clogged, and that the o-ring is still good.

3.oil pump itself, remove and inspect for damage, correct clearances etc.

4.Are there any knocking noises coming from the engine that could indicate warn/excessive clearances on the bottom end/rod bearings, Check the clearances on the main Bearing closest to the pump and the rod bearings furthest away from the pump. Inspect and measure the crank journals for scoring, wear and profile etc.

service manuals can be found here and should go into plenty of detail with regards to the various procedures

Filter is 4 months old and the oil was changed then too. I'll gunk everything and try to see exactly where it's coming from.

Cheers chaps.
