Suzuki sj410 more power? better fuel consumption...

Post by Jay18 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 9:55 am

I have a Suzuki sj410 and want to know what can be done to it to get better fuel consumption and possibly more power?
I looked at doing a engine conversion but I dont have a workshop to do the work needed so I need to know what can be done...

any help would be appreciated...

Hi Jay,

You can fit an SU carb to a 410 with only very minor modifications. This should help with mpg and power.
You would be looking for a HIF38 carb like this one:

You can get them for less than £50 if you shop around though!
You could also look at making a free-flow exhaust, as combined with an SU and a different air filter you should gain a bit more power! :)

Not sure if an SU will make that much of a difference on a 970CC really, the stock carbs are an awesome little carb, could get a performance air filter and janspeed exhaust manifold and exhaust (if you can find one!) to help it breath a bit better but you wont see many gains unless you get some headwork done as well. a turbo could be an option, might not help fuel consumption though ;)

You should see between 25/30mpg if it is all set up well and standard and it should easily hit 70mph.
