That would probably depend on the one you've bought as to whether it need to go through the suppressor. Given your old one stopped working the suppressor is one of the things that could have broken though.

Black/white is switched live. On the coil via a connector it is normally then just white with a heat-sleeve. Yours is not the original wiring as it has a chunky brown . I would just put some insulation tape on the end and leave it.

thanks for all the help guys but i think im just going to cover it in tape and buy a after market rev counter then i dont have to faff around with all these earth points and noise supressor thanks though

so the question is what after market rev counter do i go for has to be 52mm

Don't think a SJ revs quite that high, well maybe the once
