oil light
just been out in the SJ and the oil light came on (the little oil can). im not the most mechanical person in the world, so does this mean there is a problem with oil getting round the engine?
If so could it be the oil pump at fault?
cheers for looking

Re: oil light
Thats your oil pressure warning light.
It could have a few meanings...
Such as, a leaking gasket... sump gasket, maybe head gasket... check for oil leaks first off!
Otherwise it could be the pump

Re: oil light
I don't want you to think that I think your stupid, but you did check if there was oil in the sump with the dipstick? No oil = no oil pressure, we all know these engines use a bit of oil so if it hasn't been serviced in a long time you could eenuinly be short

Re: oil light
if there was gasket gone you would definitely notice a leak big enough to make the light come on. things i'd do are check oil level, check for leaks, change switch and see if it still comes on (should only be a couple of quid)
