down to earth
morning everyone.
fitted my new spots last nite
basically took the bump stops out above the windscreen and used the holes to mount the spots in.
the question is when i go to wire them in today (hopefully. bloody weather ) am i right in saying
that it wont earth on the windscreen, where i mounted the lights, due to it bein a fold down windscreen and thus surrounded in rubber?
if so is there any recommended area to position the earth??
cheers
steve

Re: down to earth
I imagine it will earth through the hinges at the bottom, but its good practice (and stops you scratching your head later when you get an issue) if you run a seperate earth, when I mounted spot lights on my roof I ran a section of 2.5mm twin core and earth which comes flat and is what you use in house wiring on a 240v socket ringmain, this I glued to the inside of the windscreen surround, at the top I fitted a connector and ran the rest of the wiring to the spots in flex, with the connector you can disconnect it whilst removing the soft top & it makes the job a bit easier! The twin core & earth (that was glued to the inside of the screen) I painted black & powered from a relay under the dash, it doesn't look overly bad even if I do say so myself!
A picture of my switches
And my wiring, you can see the connectors
I have to add.... its a nightmare trying to link to Photobucket images on your phone!

Re: down to earth
There is a fly lead between the body tub and the screen surround internally as it needs the earth for the wiper motor.

What phone? I just pop the app up. Tap 'show links' then tap the img code (which auto copies the same as the pc site) and paste it to my post.Tramp wrote: I have to add.... its a nightmare trying to link to Photobucket images on your phone!

I was gonna say I thought there was an earth between the surround and body.dan_2k_uk wrote:There is a fly lead between the body tub and the screen surround internally as it needs the earth for the wiper motor.

Photobucket app. I use my browser for the forum and just use the task switcher on the phone to swap between the browser and the photobucket app.
