Few questions about 1.6 conversion

Post by chris71920 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:35 pm

Hi!
Ok, Ive got the Vit engine back gome and have started stripping the manifolds off to get the inlet converted by Rockwatt for an SU HIF44 :)
Sammy engine ready to come out

Its new heart waiting for transplant

1. Do I need to keep all the screw in sensors etc in all of the holes but obviously do nothing with them as they wont be used

2. Which oil seal/gasket is the likely culprit of this? Just the rocker cover or is the one where the dizzy bolts on?
Image

3. Can I use the Sammy dizzy as the Vit one has a big plug with alot of wires going to it, and Im unsure of how to connect it up?

4. Can I also use the sammy coil as I dont have the Vit one? (Plus its new)

If I think of anything else I'll update :)

If you are talking about the manifold then rockwatt will blank the ones not needed for SU.

The oil leak could be either but the dizzy housing o-ring is common.

I just hooked the vit dizzy up but it could probably be changed

The coils are swappable

As dan said the coil is swappable ive got a 1.3 dizzy on my 1.6
I would say the oil is the rocker cover my self looking at where it is (wouldt hut to change it and dosent take long)

The plug that goes to the 1.6 dizzy is a long one with 7 wires into it, whereas the 1.3 only has the 3 I think? Would it work if just chopped off the unused ones (I assume they are to do with the SPi) and spliced the 1.3 ones in?

Or as you say just use the 1.3 dizzy, I assume its a straight swap?

Im thinking its the rocker cover now, as after taking all the other gubbins off the engine it seems to be leaking all down it and all around it lol

Manifold is ready to be sent off to rockwatt to work his magic :)

This is the plug in question, so which ones need hooking up to the 1.3 wiring?

Use the 1.3 dizzy but swap the dizzy housing over off the back of the head as well. Use the sammy coil with it.

I would look into replacing the distributor O-ring seal when you do it... it could be the cause of the oil leak, and if it isn't, it could have been compromised by the oil and might disintegrate when you remove the dizzy

Just remember that being an injected engine you will need to fit a fuel pump, and if you are not using your original alternator the connector might be different

Will do bud, I'll only kick myself if I dont and it leaks later lol

Already ordered an electric pump one :)

Regarding wiring it to the oil pressure switch. Do I ideally need a double pole switch I can't see how the single one would work?
