oi thats our picnic bench. the cookie monster hates you
Re: trotters sammy build 1 step forward 3 back
well after several weeks of rain and being distracted by crashing mountain bikes etc i finally got on with a bit more over last week or so..
new steering linkage (cheer scottie)
made bracket up and bolted it to chassis to act as a stop to engage the handbrake cable on the t-box drum.. (pics to follow)
moved the fuse box to on top of the dashboard, it looks pretty gash but is functional (pics to follow)
played around with rear fog light for ages trying to get it to works when its supposed to etc and fitted new relay to ensure indicators flash at correct speed.
bolted body down
bled the brakes
fitted the seats
and sorted the dodgy switch for the roof lights to get them working again
only thing i couldn't seem to cure was the smoke from exhaust after its running for a bit!
so Thursday feeling pleased with my progress i booked MOT for Friday morning...
Off i set to get halfway there and have the gearstick pop out of the box in my hand
haha was a bit of a shock ha so i wedged it back in and drove back home to find 3 bolts sat on the shelf feeling lonely as i'd forgotten to bolt the retaining plate to top of gearbox DOH!!
note to self double check everything twice!!
so as a result got to mot place 5 mins late for them to tell me i'd missed my slot and would have to leave it with them and they'd see if they could fit it in later in the day
so i walked home in the rain... oh the joys
fast forward to 10 mins before they close and its failed....
on front number plate being illegally spaced? oh right mr picky mot man
emissions and clouds of dense blue smoke under acceleration... haha i hope he nearly choked on it (funny how it didn't do it when i drove it home eh.. or at least not what i'd call dense clouds )
oh and on BLOODY WELDING!! grrrrr mr mot had been poking his screw driver around a repair done previous to me buying it and he'd managed to prise a line of spot welds separating a plate and the floor pan..
so today as the sun has been shining i've dressed all the spot welds away bashed plate back down with a mallet etc and re-welded it... let him try prise it off now
also got a new number plate made up..
and just the engine to sort and i'l have a pass
not gonna mention the page and a half of ridiculous advisories... as "the tyres are of a knobbly type" is laughable as an advisory i think...
so all in all its almost there and will def be ready for suzuki day

Re: trotters sammy build 1 step forward 3 back
Quick update- 8hrs last weekend had the front clip off, engine out, inlet and exhaust manifolds, dizzy, starter, alternator, pulleys, clutch, flywheel and engine mounts swapped to new engine then refitted everything.. And bingo!! No more blue smoke
Cheers dan_2k couldn't have got it done so quick without your help.
New carb needle and spring turned up from burlen yesterday so just awaiting choke cable to arrive and i get to battle mr mot once more ;-)
In the mean time my pile of spares and shiny bits seems to getting larger by the day..
