brake fluid resevoir wiring
brake fluid resevoir wiring
Could someone tell me what way around the wires to the fluid level sender go on the cap. As ive fitted the vit master cylinder and servo so need to know what way round the wires are to wire it into the SJ loom.
Cheers

Re: brake fluid resevoir wiring
I don't think it matters, as it's just a wire to the switch then earth.
Done this from a 1990 Tracker wiring diagram.
And the SJ

Re: brake fluid resevoir wiring
Ah but you see I have 3 wires in the loom and 3 connections on the cap. I'm on my phone but you'll see ot on the European wiring diagram.
Black-earth
Red w/black
White w/red
I just don't want to risk frying anything so would rather not go for the trial and error method wouldn't be a problem if I had the connector from the vit that plugs into the cap as it would have the colours on but I don't.

Re: brake fluid resevoir wiring
I can't find any vitara diagrams showing this wiring, sorry. The only diagram I can find showing 3 wires is the one in the stickies (none of my diagrams).
I can't understand why the hell it's wired like this

Hmm interesting maybe I should check my other vit master cylinder to see of It's only got 2 connections
Might also have to check with Mike to see if the cylinder and servo I got off him was actually off a late samurai
It does have one less brakeline take off than the original vit one I had on there but is the same model apart from that.

Worked it out
The alternator connection is there because the fluid level light comes on with ignition and reverts to the fluid level switch when engine running.
Checked various SJ diagrams and the 2 wire fluid switch type have the diode built into the combination meter.
None of the diagrams on my PC showed 3 wires to the fluid level switch but my workshop manual does
It's taken me bloomin ages to work this out and it's still no bloody help to you.
You could work it out with a multimeter but a photo of a vit with 3 wires would save the bother.

Cheers for the help Darrell, I'm sure we'll get there, might just resort to using a test light to work it out
It's this master cylinder if anyone has one on their SJ?

Re: brake fluid resevoir wiring
Well I looked for the level light on the dash this morning with the ignition on (not running)and nothing
The handbook says it should light and then go off when running.
The manual wiring reads it should light and then go off when running.
Well I lifted the cap off and the light came on
First time I've seen it , and I've had the dam thing 13 years
Been searching again but still haven't found any sj or vits with that cap
Meter time

Re: brake fluid resevoir wiring
I know mine used to work as it came on a few times when I was at a steep angle offroading
I was snooping earlier in some build threads to see if any one has the same cap, turns out twiss does so he's gonna let me know what order the wires are in if he remembers

Re: brake fluid resevoir wiring
Well this is Twiss's (cheers matey) and it only has 2 wires, I'm going to hazard a guess that the red w/black is in the same position on both 2 and 3 wire looms
