Re: towing and transfer boxes
Thats interesting about the transfer box.
For the sake of 4 bolts it might be worth unbolting the rear prop for a long tow journey

Re: towing and transfer boxes
also Mr RAC told me A framing is fine and all recovery people used to do it all the time till they were issued with towing dollies etc etc even after me pointing out that its then effectively a overweight limit un-braked trailer etc etc... so the debate rages on.
personally i wouldn't unless in a dire emergency and then only to move it to a safer location ie; off the main road

if in doubt, FLAT OUT!

A frames are fine for recovery purposes only and the car has to have MOT and Tax as far as I'm aware.
It's illegal to A-frame a suzuki unless it has tax, MOT and a braking system fitted because of the weight.

Re: towing and transfer boxes
Well i've driven over a ton many times and never been stopped by the police either
I have an A-frame and have used it many, many times (and sometimes still do)
For an A-frame to be used legally the towed car has to be FULLY road legal (MOT/tax/insurance/legal tyres etc etc)
It must have proper trailer lighting (a lighting board etc)
It MUST have a braking system that works whilst it is being towed.
Yes you can use them unbraked in a recovery situation but ONLY to recover a broken down car to the nearest place of safety.
plus you also need the correct towing license to use one.
the legalities of it are black and white, if its not road legal, not braked, not broken down or being towed for miles its illegal

I don't know.... in fact its the first time I've heard it! Maybe an urban myth? I've got a bit of text about a framing but its too big for my phone to copy & paste, in essence it said you can do it but generally speaking its to much hassle to bother with!
Re: towing and transfer boxes
