carburretor problems?.. help please.. and smokey engine..
Every time i start the engine from cold i need to pull my choke out almost fully to get it to start, i connot just push the choke in after it has started either, i have to let the choke off bit by bit so that i can get her to idle properly, if i let the choke off too fast it cuts the engine out...
and do you think she is smoking too much or is it just because the cars old?
temp guage doesnt go above halfway and the oil is oil coloured and the water is still clean, but the engine does seem to get very hot, after running for about an hour the bonnet prop gets very warm for when i put the bonne

Re: carburretor problems?.. help please.. and smokey engine.
It's been a long time since I've had a vehicle with a manual choke but that sounds the normal. I had to turn it in little by little until it was warm and didn't need choke. Most autochoke systems turn off slowly as the water temperature rises.Jay18 wrote:Every time i start the engine from cold i need to pull my choke out almost fully to get it to start, i connot just push the choke in after it has started either, i have to let the choke off bit by bit so that i can get her to idle properly, if i let the choke off too fast it cuts the engine out...

Looking at the video it looks more like steam than smoke, to me anyway. The video is quite close up and smoke would drift off down the driveway.

okay mate thanks, i have just bought a new carb off a someone on here anyway as one of the screws is snapped on the butterfly so ill get the carb fitted off him when it comes and see if theres any difference.
i hope the steam is just because shes been sat there for so long, do you think shell pass mot like that? I have a head gasket set at home anyway so i can do it if i need to, hopefullyi can get her to pass with the leaking crankshaft seal too

The MOT should be done with the engine fully warmed up with the choke off. So only the meter can tell you what your emissions are like. If your lucky and the oil is only running down the back of the engine and not over the flywheel and clutch. Assuming your clutch works OK to get you there the oil leak should not be an MOT fail, although it won't do any harm to clean it off the best you can before you go.

okay mate thanks for that, i already had that planned lol im going to clean the whole car anywy before it goes in so i will be cleaning the oil off the gearbox and engine, and yes the clutch works fine after fitting a new clutch cable so im hoping the oil hasnt got to the clutch...

Re: carburretor problems?.. help please.. and smokey engine.
as soon as i book it lol, i need to put my car in my dads name so he can insure it until i can afford to insure it myself, then it will be going on a trailor to the garage for the mot when its booked.
so as soon as the log book is changed over and my dad has insurance on it i will be mot'ing it and taxing it then she can be parked outside the house...
then ill be doing the head gasket set on it and cranks shaft seal, hopefully when i move down to the girlfriends i will get a good payed job and get the sj insured then i can come back up and get my zuk and take it down to my girlfriends with me...
thats the plan so hopefully shell pass the mot...
