advice please ?
advice please ?
hi guys a relative newbie to all this . this is my dilemma i bought and broke this
and this
i also have a 1.9 peugeot diesel lying around what do we rekon would be best to put in this 410
the sj i broke did have 1.3 engine and box in her but only 410 axles i think she was also fitted with a su carb . now do i take the 1.6 from the vit mate it to the 1.3 box from the sj and add both to the 410 or do i drop in the diesel and the 1.3 box ???? only problem with the diesel is i cant seem to find an adaptor plate for the diesel engine so that would require me to make one .
any advice help listened to and appreciated . and its only for off road !

Re: advice please ?
What sort of off roading do you think you'll be doing, wet or dry? The Vitara engines will be more responsive, revvier and lighter than the diesel. The diesel has more torque and is better in wet situations.
If it's for rocks, gravel and dirt/damp mud I'd go with the 1.6.
If it's for mud and wading, I'd go for the diesel.
Also, the bigger your wheels are, the more I'd lean towards the diesel, again because of torque. If you're leaving it with those that are on (Those alloys look really good by the way) I'd got for the 1.6.

There's three ways of doing things:
The right way,
The wrong way
And my way, which is like the wrong way but faster.

Re: advice please ?
i cant see a need for anything but the 1.6 petrol.... but I'm biased!

Re: advice please ?
i like the idea of the 1.9 td conversion but to be honest the 1.6 vit engine conversion is the easiest..
and do you have the alloys for the red vit still? if so is there a spare? haha been after a spare alloy wheel for my sj...

Re: advice please ?
Ive looked into doing a 1.9 td conversion and couple things went against it imo
You can get an adaptor plate but they were to much££ for me or vitara gearbox, you can change the bell house for one that mates up to the 1.9 again too much££
Too much work involved, reroute exhaust, engine mounts move rad, rewire loads and chop redo trans tunnel or body lift.
Its far too heavy
1.6 so much easier cheaper. Move drivers side engine mount and a bit of drilling of the block to match gearbox and maybe a bit of grinding to fit the starter simples

Jimny 1.6 not as good as an SJ but still good

Re: advice please ?
looks like most people so far are going for the 1.6 option . thats kinda what i was thinking as well ! wont be doing much wading but if its there im game to give it a go lol
i do have an alloy wheel i actually have 5 with my spare tyres on them lol
and the alloys on the sj are staying i bought them for her as they were a set of 5 i must admit myself they do suit it .
could always put the diesel in the chassi of the tin top and go play lol now theres an idea ???

Less weight. The G16 is an alloy block. The F10 is steel.ScottieJ wrote:1.6 all the way easy to do and no extra weight

But the F10 is a lot smaller, and the steel internals of the G16 are bigger. I can lift both and there really isn't much in it, would be interesting to get an f10 lump on the scales though to see.Edweird wrote:Less weight. The G16 is an alloy block. Re: advice please ?
I've never seen the two side by side, but the F10 is a pretty small engine with very few ancillaries so you're probably right.ScottieJ wrote:But the F10 is a lot smaller, and the steel internals of the G16 are bigger.
