Soft Top

Post by dcallaghan2011 » Mon Oct 08, 2012 6:40 pm

Hi, I have just bought my first LJ but it doesn't have any roof with it, (it's a soft top not some butchered hardtop) so I am after a soft top for it, I want one that just covers the two front seats and the rest is open, I think the style is called a bikini top? So does anyone know where I am able to get one? Also I would like to get some fabric doors if anyone knows of a place that sells them?

Many Thanks,

Dan

Awesome nice one matey, hope you're gonna look after it, not many left now and that looks like a very tidy one!

Try eBay.de loads of stuff on the German eBay, it's going to be hard to find one in the UK unless you find someone to make one. Emplan on here had a full new soft top made by a company called master covers in Portsmouth, have a look at his build thread.

I looked at using an SJ bikini top but the roof is actually wider on the Lj than it is on an sj.

Ok guys, thanks for that, yes it's going to get looked after and be treated to a nice spray job, it's solid but I need to have a proper look at the weekend and do some tests on the engine as it smokes just like a steam engine  but hopefully wont be too much to sort out.

Oh and fabric doors are super rare, you'll be lucky to find some and if they are good expect to pay quite a lot for them.

That's cheap  I think I'll get one for mine as well  I also have no roof.

Glad to hear its gonna be treated right, it'll most likely be the valve stem oil seals, the f series engines are known for it!

What colour are you going? Back to original?

Ye I've heard about the valve stem oil seals, I was also told it has a bit of diesel in the fuel to help lubricate things so that's not going to help with the smoke :smokin: Colour wise, the original colour is supposedly green but the interior including the engine bay is red, so not actually sure what the original colour is? I'm thinking maybe a type of gun metal grey, I know its not an original colour but I think that they look smart in that colour :guns:

The colour code should be on the vin plate  then again it's only paint at the end of the day so the grey sounds good!

If its still got the 800cc engine, don't waste your time with it. First job with every LJ I've ever had is to get rid of the 800 lump and fit a 970 lump. In fact I used to use the same SJ lump and swap it from each LJ when i sold them. Think I had it in 5 different motors in the end!!!!! They go loads better with it.

Master covers was always the place for soft tops but it looks like they are a marine specialist now, I suppose they might still be able to supply a soft top, but they may no longer be interested
