if you got the type with no screws , you just push down and twist it in that kina motion

You don't twist the sender itself, there is a retaining ring that you have to rotate anti-clockwise if i remember correctly. there should be 2/3 little tabs on it that you can knock it around with, be careful not to break them off though as the ring can be quite stubborn to get moving sometimes.

Please make sure your replacement is going to fit before butchering the existing one out. I'd hate your replacement to turn out to be the screw down type !
Maybe someone has managed to get a twist one out without buggering it up

im going to leave it for now knowing my luck when the new one comes it will have screws on it so i will waite and see .the sj is my daily runabout so its a grand pain in the arse not knowing how much go juice is in it .theres always the petrol can with my reserve £5 in it .i dont want to spend to much on the tank as im planning to put a marine tank in the back eventually.
Re: removeing fuel sender from tank
well My dad and I have made a twist out one fit a screw fitting tank but I'm not sure you would be able to do it the other way around
