A couple of problems

Post by palmer » Sun Nov 25, 2012 3:43 pm

Hi all just recently fitted my 1.3 engine into my 410, i did have a webber carb on it but my mate wanted it back so i put the original carb which came with the engine back on and it runs pretty well but since looking on many topics on here i have noticed that i dont have one of the electronic plugs that plug into the carb. I have the fuel solinoid idle plug but i dont seem to have the one near the bottom of the carb which you can see in the picture.
Is this because it is a 410 and they dont have that plug?, if so is this ok or will i need to add a plug somehow to make things run better?.
Also on a different note when i run the engine up to temperature it dumps a load of water out of the top of the rad from the cap and into the expansion tank, why is it doing this? Once its done this no more comes out and it runs fine, the temperature gauge says that it is getting hot but is that because it has a 410 temp gauge and a 413 temp sensor?
Any advice and tips on the matter would be very grateful thanks
Palmer :guns:

Not sure about the carb wiring into a 410. The water issue sounds like its just expelling excess water.

Is it sucking the water back in when it cools down? If so then it sounds ok. As the water expands and contracts in forces it into expansion tank then sucks it back in as it contracts.

A bit strange really :er: , that carb doesn't have the idle-up system fitted but has the electrical connection. It has no valve fitted into the manifold and no thread to fit it to :er: . I understood they all had that (413) but I guess I'm wrong. Either way it's just the idle-up so if you have a high current drain on the battery it will tick over a little low, nothing worth worrying about  .

Cheers darell yes it does seem a bit strange :er: , if anything it ticks over a bit fast.
Do you have anymore info on this carb i.e adjustments etc?, also i have a manual choke which would good to connect up if there is anyway.
Any info would be great :hands:

This page will take a minute or 2 to download http://www.4x4.in.th/manual_sj413/chapter4.pdf
It's the complete carb section from the manual. You can save this file via the bottom of the page

As you have found out, you will not get the correct readings on the temperature gauge with the wrong sender fitted.

I've read thought the workshop manual and the manifold does not have a thread for the BVSV valve as the manual choke version doesn't use one. However it still shows an idle-up actuator.
Still, doesn't matter a rats arse :D I'm just trying to figure out what's going on.

I had lost the expansion tank when i ran it but have now found it so will try again, also i'm still using the 410 rad with the 1.3 engine is this an issue? I didnt think that there would be a problem as i cant imagine an 413 rad being much bigger if any but i could be wrong :screwy:

Don't worry about that plug or the idle up system. I took it all off my carb with the 1.6 and never had any issues

I made up something to fit the sj410 temp sender into the top hose. You want a M16x1.5 nut, a small bit of tube that fits the top hose a, drill and a welder ;)
