SNAPPED CV JOINT

Post by colinl » Mon Dec 03, 2012 6:16 pm

Hi All can you be gentle as this is my first post!
I have just bought an SJ413 and only drove it for 10 minutes before i broke it.I have snapped the o/s/f cv joint but in the process have also wrecked the end of the half shaft but cant locate any of these parts. Can anybody please tell me if any of these parts are interchangeable with other sj models and the best place to get them.

Thanks in advance Col

Not a million miles away. Im not 100% sure which is which but 410, 413 and samurai axles all differ slightly. Width, splines, diameter and so on.

If we wait a bit darrell with post a pic of an exploded set of axles most likely. Showing all the differences.

First we will need to establish whether it is a SJ413 or a Samurai as the axle width will be different.

If you post up a pic or link the the advert where you bought it from someone will probably be able to tell you that by eye.

Were you driving offroad? If not then I guess you were using 4wd on tarmac which you shouldnt do with a SJ as it has no center diff.

Thanks for the link! i have just sent him a pm as like you say not that far away.
the link for the one i have bought is [ebay][/ebay181021350276].
I was using it offroad when i heard it crunch and then the wheel locked up but then freed off so i thought all was ok until i tried a bit of mud to find i only had 2 wheel drive!
The log book says its a sj 413 but i guess that its that old it could be anything!it would be nice to find out what it actually is and what parts will fit it.
regards Col

How can you tell? Does this mean that i can only use samurai parts due to the wider axles?
